A New Year

A Time to Reflect—

A time to say, “I am resolved.”

“That ye may know the way by which ye must go:
for ye have not passed this way heretofore” —Joshua 3:4

AS WE BEGIN a new year it is always good to establish resolutions or goals that will help us grow as Christians, that will help us draw nearer to God, that will help us better serve the church. Below is a short list of nine goals that any of us might consider using as a guide for our spiritual growth for 2015. In writing this list I wanted to go beyond just making a list for someone to read or follow. I wanted to help  make these resolutions more relevant.  I thought it good to make the list  measurable.  Admittedly, the measures listed are somewhat arbitrary, so you will need to personalize them for your use. As we begin this new year, let us all strive to better serve our Lord and His church.

  • Read the entire Bible from Genesis thru Revelation during the year: Spend time with God each day.
  • Ask a friend, coworker, or neighbor to attend worship services:  4 times during the year.
  • Ask a friend, coworker, or neighbor for a Bible study: 3 times during the year.
  • Give a business card from the church to someone each month who might later want to study the Bible: 1 time each month.

  • Memorize one Bible verse each week: 52 verses for the year.
  • Have a Bible study with your children: at least 2 nights each week.
  • Visit a widow or a widower, or a shut-in: 6 times during the year.
  • Have a couple or family from the church into your home: 4 times during the year.
  • Pray to God every time you eat a meal,  every time go to bed for the night, every time you have a quiet moment to praise Him and thank Him.

May God continue to bless each of us as we begin the new year.
